The Tarot Sculpture Series

In 2007 Jacques started work on the ´Tarot Sculpture Series´. He intends to create ceramic sculptures of the 22 Major Arcana cards, to be used for a more interactive approach to the Tarot.

The spherical base symbolises the Five Elements - earth (upper left with foot resting on the stone), water (upper right), air (in the form of clouds, below stones), fire (lower right) and ether (inside the sphere). The Magician himself is shown wearing Renaissance European costume, with the bird-like headdress of a shaman - representing his ability to travel between worlds. He holds a dagger (raised arm) and ball of fire, the masculine elements of which he is master.

Metamorphosis

This sculpture represents the moment when Apollo touches a fleeing Daphne, who is turned into a tree.

An imprint of the face of the God Apollo can be seen in Daphne´s billowing robe, while the metamorphosis is symbolised by a twisting matrix at the base of the sculpture.
